Position Overview
Job Description
Our client, a Karachi-based company, is seeking to appoint an experienced and seasoned professional for the position of Deputy General Manager Legal in their Legal Department. The ideal candidate will provide proactive, high-quality advisory services and risk assessment in compliance with company policies and applicable laws. This role will report to the Head of Legal and will work closely with all other functions within the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure legal risks to the company’s functions are proactively identified and, where appropriate, mitigated or minimized.
- Provide legal assistance on all oil/gas infrastructure projects, licensing, and franchising arrangements.
- Provide legal advisory on real estate transactions, shipping, and international trade.
- Support the legal perspective of new business propositions and structure joint ventures/partnerships.
- Provide legal opinions on matters pertaining to procurement and banking/financing arrangements.
- Overview all employment/labor law matters and draft/vet agreements, deeds, and other instruments.
- Support the implementation of compliance programs and supervise a team of lawyers.
- Provide legal support to the senior management and Board of the company.
- Appear before quasi-judicial/regulatory forums, submit representations, and safeguard the company’s interests.
Requirements
- Law Degree from an HEC recognized Law School/University; Solicitor, Bar-at-law, L. L. M. or equivalent will be an added advantage.
- Preferably 8-10 years of professional experience in a large national/multinational organization, with 5-7 years of related functional experience in a similar role or in a middle management position.
- Experience of working at a regulatory organization will be an added advantage.
- Drafting and interpretational skills are key factors for this role.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills are vital for success.
- Maintain professional discretion with sensitive and highly confidential information at all times.
Age Requirement
The candidate should preferably be not more than 45 years of age as of the last date of submission of application.
